Transitioning Into the Cambridge Portfolio Project!

Hey Cambridge people!! From this point on i will be documenting my process of my portfolio project. This past week in my Aice media class, we've been learning about film openings. Starting a big Cambridge project like this is exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time, because this means it's actually happening. Theres so many things to consider, like what genre to use, what story to tell, and how to make it all come together. Right now my main focus is to brainstorm ideas. Trying to figure out the best approach. One of my first steps is deciding what genre to choose, which will basically shape everything. Over the next few days, I’ll be finding facts about different genres, and being as creative as i can. I know there will be challenges along the way, but I’m still beyond excited to see how this project unfolds!

These are my notes!

For my film opening, an approach i’m thinking about using is establishing context and background. I think i'm going to use setting, lighting, and probably props to help tell the story. This way, the viewers can understand important details without everything being explained to them. Because this way works with a lot of different genres, which is helpful since I haven’t decided on one yet. Another approach I might try is developing character. If I go with a coming of age film, this would be an awesome way to introduce the main character in a way that feels natural. I’d focus on dialogue, tone, and actions to show their personality, like how they talk, and how they interact with other people. Small details in thinsg around them could also add to who they are. I just want the audience to find out who they are and not making it stick out.

Both of these approaches i had in mind would help me create an engaging film opening. My goal is to hook the audience and keep them interested, because let’s be real, no one likes a boring start. I’m excited to see how everything comes together!!!
