Credit sequences

Hello guys! Today i'll be researching 3 credit sequences and analyzing them. Credit sequences usually serve a bigger purpose, they don't choose the most basic font or color to  just list the names, it is usually related to the character, scenes, or setting. They highlight the characters journey throughout the movie. Here are three credit sequences in the Sports/Drama genre that stand out.

Air (2023)

The end credits of Air (2023) feature real like clips and images of Michael Jordan, Nike executives, and the evolution of the Air Jordan brand. The credit sequence at the end has a background music of the 80's, which makes sure the audience feels energy and excitement. The font and style of the credits are bold and retro, they resemble the advertising and branding from the 1980's. It fits the business and athletic themes of the film. As for the color scheme, the colors are bright reds, deep blacks, and very bold whites, which happen to be Air Jordans signature colors.

King Richard (2021)

The credits of "King Richard" show real life clips pf Venus and Serena Williams, as well as their father Richard. They show clips of interviews, championship highlights and, videos from when they had first started training, which is reminding the viewers of the film based on a true story. The text of the credits appear in white or gold with warm toned, old footage.

American Underdog (2021)

American underdog also shows real life short videos of Kurt warners career, from his days in the Arena football league to his super bowl victory. We see clips of interviews, games, as well as clips of his family. The font is clean and pretty much elegant and professional, it's very modern i would say. The sequence is also filled with many blues, golds and whites, which are the colors of the Rams and the NFL. The bright colors give a very happy and positive vibe. The credit sequence strengthens the real life main idea behind the movie, showing Kurt Warner's story is full of faith, determination, patience, and trying to achieve what you think is the impossible.

Film opening

Hey Cambridge I'm back!! Me and my partners have been researching many film openings. We decided on a genre which is sports drama!  In order to gain a better understanding of the genre i will analyze and interpret film openings that relate to the genre we chose for our film opening. Here are 3 awesome film openings that caught my attention in the same genre.

Film opening number one.

Rocky (1976)
Movie Poster - Rocky (1977)

The film starts with a very low dimmed boxing gym. Rocky Bilboa an underdog, small time fighter, wrestling Spider Rico in a small match. Roxy is a struggling boxer in a small town in philadelphia, the environment is tough and dark. And the fight itself is aggressive. The setting of the opening scene is dark and grainy highlighting the way Rocky is such an underdog.

Film opening number 2.

Remember the Titans (2000)

The film begins with one of the football players funeral, a voiceover tells us about the past, and then the scene goes to Virginia 1971, at this time all black and white students were forced to learn together and use the same facilities. Which was very difficult for them since it caused plenty of tension. We see real TV News of people protesting. Then we meet one of the coaches, a tough but good coach who's been hired to lead the football team. Many people including the players didn't like this change. It makes us realize that this movie is less about football and more about racism, and people learning to work together.

Film opening number 3.

He Got Game (1998)

The movie begins with slow motion shots of people playing basketball all over the place. We see kids on a playground courts, in their neighborhood courts, and people even shooting hoops in fields. The music makes the scene calm and really make it noticeable how basketball isn't just a sport it's a way of life for many people. Then the focus changes to Jake the main character. He looks like a serious man, he's been serving time in prison, he's watching basketball from behind a fence, separated from the world. This film opening hooks us and making it known that basketball has a huge importance.

Hello Blog! I'm back. This week, i started thinking about genres or ideas about the film opening. Since me and one of my friends work at a gymnastics center, so we got inspired to do something related to gymnastics. Now that i have something in mind, i believe choosing either a coming of age or drama film could suit this idea perfectly.

Characteristics of a coming of age film.

In a coming of age film the main character is usually under the age of 18 or simply just a teenager going through some major changes. The film tends to show how they face challenges and grow up. As the story continues the main character learns plenty of things and by the end is a whole different person from where they started.

A good coming of age film needs to have a very clear message and accurate character growth. This can be shown by the setting, costume, and color scheme the character is surrounded by or even wearing, it can also be. determined from how the character is acting. The goal is to make the audience like the main character and root for them.

An example of a coming of age film:

The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022)

Characteristics of Drama:

Dramas usually have a lot of conflict on the main character or to people surrounding the main character. They usually have a clear plot and are driven by characters who are going through emotional struggles. Dramas often exaggerate situations to make everything feel more intense A good drama needs well developed characters, and things like costumes, props, lighting, and music( mis- en-scene) which help bring them to life. Details like these help the audience feel more connected to the characters.

For a Drama film to be really good it would also need a strong believable plot, and really good acting. If the plot isn't good, the story wont make much sense. And if the acting isn't good the story wont seem believable. Drama can also explore many topics such as love, family,or personal challenges aswell. But when drama does't do well, it's usually because the plot feels weak or the acting isn't convincing.

Example pf a drama Film:

Greys Anatomy (2005)

Transitioning Into the Cambridge Portfolio Project!

Hey Cambridge people!! From this point on i will be documenting my process of my portfolio project. This past week in my Aice media class, we've been learning about film openings. Starting a big Cambridge project like this is exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time, because this means it's actually happening. Theres so many things to consider, like what genre to use, what story to tell, and how to make it all come together. Right now my main focus is to brainstorm ideas. Trying to figure out the best approach. One of my first steps is deciding what genre to choose, which will basically shape everything. Over the next few days, I’ll be finding facts about different genres, and being as creative as i can. I know there will be challenges along the way, but I’m still beyond excited to see how this project unfolds!

These are my notes!

For my film opening, an approach i’m thinking about using is establishing context and background. I think i'm going to use setting, lighting, and probably props to help tell the story. This way, the viewers can understand important details without everything being explained to them. Because this way works with a lot of different genres, which is helpful since I haven’t decided on one yet. Another approach I might try is developing character. If I go with a coming of age film, this would be an awesome way to introduce the main character in a way that feels natural. I’d focus on dialogue, tone, and actions to show their personality, like how they talk, and how they interact with other people. Small details in thinsg around them could also add to who they are. I just want the audience to find out who they are and not making it stick out.

Both of these approaches i had in mind would help me create an engaging film opening. My goal is to hook the audience and keep them interested, because let’s be real, no one likes a boring start. I’m excited to see how everything comes together!!!

Music Marketing1

Dec 9th, 2024

For this project, we started with the research phase. Our task was to choose two music companies and five artists or bands that fit our assigned genre, "rock." Since we decided to focus on alternative rock, we chose Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, and Cage the Elephant. We linked Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, and Foo Fighters to Universal Music Group, as Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant were connected to RCA Records.

Finding bands in our genre that worked with the same music companies wasn’t easy. We had to switch out a few bands along the way to make sure they matched. To manage our research better, we divided the work, with each person focusing on one band. We looked into the history of the bands, how they connect with their audience, and their marketing strategies, both online and offline. This research taught us a lot about branding and marketing, which gave us inspiration for creating our own band.

Once we finished researching, we moved on to the planning stage. First, we picked one of four songs that matched our genre, and after some discussion, we all agreed on the one that felt right. Next, we decided what kind of music video would work best for our style, and we thought an artistic approach would be the most fitting. To stay organized, we assigned some team members to work on the presentation and others on the music video. We also set deadlines for each part of the project so we could stay on track. Overall, this process has helped us stay focused and excited about creating our final product.
